CASE Consultants Strengthens USGCRP’s Climate Adaptation and Resilience Efforts

The U.S. Global Change Research Program’s (USGCRP) National Coordination Office (NCO) faced a critical challenge in bolstering its interagency coordination on climate adaptation, resilience, and scientific assessments. CASE plays pivotal role in advancing the integration of research and services across federal agencies, ensuring that the USGCRP’s initiatives were both scientifically robust and strategically aligned with national needs. Our support includes:

  • Effective Interagency Coordination: CASE facilitates seamless collaboration among federal agencies by coordinating interagency groups (IGs) focused on climate adaptation and resilience. CASE leads the planning and execution of working group meetings, managing everything from scheduling to post-meeting follow-up, which fostered enhanced knowledge-sharing and cooperation.

  • Support for Key Initiatives: CASE provides comprehensive logistical, technical, and communication support for various IG activities, including webinars, workshops, and publication development. CASE leads critical discussions and disseminating key findings, which ensures that IG activities are impactful and aligned with USGCRP goals.

  • Contributing to National Reports, including NCA5: CASE contributes to the development of the fifth National Climate Assessment (NCA5), a cornerstone of the USGCRP’s work. Our experts provide procedural guidance to author teams and contributed to ad hoc projects that ensured the NCA5 was informed by the latest scientific insights.

  • Input on Mandated Reports: CASE coordinates IG input for USGCRP’s mandated reports, including “Our Changing Planet” and the Strategic Plan. Our team ensures that these reports accurately reflected the collective expertise and research findings of the involved agencies, which reinforces their credibility and relevance.

Through the strategic placement of skilled climate adaptation experts within the USGCRP, CASE enhanced the program’s capacity to coordinate effectively across federal agencies, advancing its mission to improve the nation’s resilience to climate change. CASE’s involvement not only strengthened the NCO’s operational capacity but also underscored the critical importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing one of the most pressing global challenges of our time.
