A few short examples of our work.

  • CASE provides essential scientific, technical, and regulatory expertise to support awardees of NOAA’s Office of Coastal Management (OCM) Climate Resilience Regional Challenge (CRRC), a $575M program funded by the Inflation Reduction Act. Our team specializes in climate adaptation strategies, nature-based solutions, and environmental justice, offering comprehensive guidance to help CRRC collaboratives align their projects with Federal policies and CRRC objectives. Our contributions include developing advanced climate data visualization and modeling tools, which enable communities to make data-driven decisions and effectively address specific climate risks. We ensure these tools are accessible, actionable, and enhance resilience, especially for collaboratives with limited technical resources. Additionally, CASE integrates social science methodologies to evaluate the social and economic impacts of climate change, fostering resilience strategies that are both scientifically robust and socially equitable. We also provide targeted training and capacity-building programs to empower local stakeholders in implementing effective adaptation measures.

  • CASE provides critical support to the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s (USGCRP) National Coordination Office (NCO) by enhancing interagency coordination on climate adaptation, resilience, and scientific assessments. Our team contributes to key national reports, including the fifth National Climate Assessment (NCA5), ensuring that these documents adhere to the latest scientific standards and regulatory requirements. We also coordinate input for mandated reports, such as “Our Changing Planet” and the Strategic Plan, ensuring they accurately reflect the expertise of involved agencies. CASE’s support enhances the NCO’s operational capacity, advancing USGCRP’s mission to improve national climate resilience while ensuring compliance with federal mandates.

  • CASE’s experts evaluate the multiplier effects of climate change on a variety of geohazards facing SE Asia for USAID and Geohazards International (GHI) Amplified Risk Program. We help USAID and GHI create a resilience playbook for risk managers in the region.

  • CASE successfully achieved the objectives outlined in the contract for supporting the EPA's Climate Pollution Reductions Grant (CPRG) program. We provided seven highly qualified subject matter experts (SMEs) who played a crucial role in objectively reviewing over 223 grant applications for projects designed to address greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) across sectors submitted by states, municipalities, tribal nations, and territories.

CASE supports Phase 2 of the program, providing expert merit review of the 223 grant applications spanning states, municipalities, tribal nations, and territories developing action plans for reducing climate pollution within their respective planning domains, to include process and impact evaluation of their Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) submittals. The EPA selected seven CASE SMEs out of a field of 150 reviewer candidates. Our experts offered a mix of public and private sector experience in major GHG-emitting sectors and in evaluating plans for reducing air pollution, implementing electrification programs, renewable energy standards, energy efficiency measures, waste reduction initiatives, and carbon removal policies. Our experts completed their reviews to the satisfaction of our prime contractor and the EPA.

  • In response to the need for reducing public health and environmental impacts on surrounding communities, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 allocated $3 billion to the EPA for the Clean Ports Program. This program aims to fund zero-emission port equipment and infrastructure, as well as climate and air quality planning at U.S. ports. With two competitive pathways, the Zero-Emission Technology Deployment Competition ($2.8B) and the Climate and Air Quality Planning Competition ($150M), the program’s goals include transitioning ports to zero-emissions operations, reducing diesel pollution, and ensuring community engagement in emissions reduction planning.

CASE played a pivotal role in the Clean Ports Program by partnering with RTI to review grantee applications. Our team of seven highly qualified CASE Consultants was selected as Merit Reviewers through a competitive process, ensuring that only the best candidates, pre-vetted to meet EPA’s stringent requirements, were chosen. Our efforts helped direct funding towards projects that will significantly reduce emissions at U.S. ports, deliver cleaner air for communities, and support comprehensive climate and air quality planning activities. This work positions U.S. ports to lead in the transition to zero-emission operations and fosters meaningful community engagement and environmental sustainability.

  • The EPA Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles Program, funded by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality by transitioning heavy-duty vehicles to cleaner technologies. With substantial funding allocated for this initiative, the program focuses on reducing emissions from one of the largest sources of air pollution, thereby enhancing public health and environmental quality across the nation. CASE played a crucial role in supporting the EPA’s objectives by partnering with RTI to ensure a thorough and effective review process for grantee applications. Our team of highly qualified CASE Consultants was selected as Merit Reviewers through a competitive process, chosen for their expertise in transportation and environmental sustainability. These consultants were tasked with pre-vetting candidates to ensure they met the stringent requirements of the program.

Through our meticulous review process, CASE helped identify and prioritize projects that would have the greatest impact on reducing emissions from heavy-duty vehicles. Our efforts ensured that funding was directed towards initiatives that transitioned heavy-duty vehicle fleets to zero-emission technologies, reduced diesel pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in communities heavily affected by transportation emissions, and promoted sustainable practices and community engagement in emission reduction efforts. CASE’s participation in the Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles Program supported the EPA’s goal of transforming the transportation sector by funding projects that will deliver cleaner air and improved public health outcomes. By maintaining program execution within the proposed price, adhering to contract schedules, and resolving technical problems quickly and effectively, CASE ensured seamless integration with RTI and the EPA, thereby achieving the program’s objectives efficiently and effectively.
