Seal Ecology Research Specialist
Position Overview:
CASE seeks a Seal Ecology Research Specialist to support the Seal Ecology program in studying the abundance, distribution, and behavior of seal populations in the Northwest Atlantic. The role involves fieldwork, data analysis, and conservation strategy development.

Location: Remote/Woods Hole, MA, or other Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) locations
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct aerial and unmanned surveys to monitor seal populations.
Assist in animal capture, tagging, and biological sampling.
Analyze telemetry data to model seal movements and behaviors.
Evaluate the impacts of environmental changes and human activities on seal ecology.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s (BS), Master’s (MS), or Doctorate (PhD) in an environmental science-related field.
Experience in aerial surveys, animal handling, and data analysis.
Knowledge of Esri ArcGIS, Python, R, and telemetry analysis preferred.
Willingness to participate in fieldwork under challenging conditions.
Preferred Skills:
Deep understanding of seal species and related ecosystems along the northern US continental shelf.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies related to threatened and endangered species (ESA, MMPA, NEPA).
Experience working in interdisciplinary teams or contributing to collaborative research projects.
Proven track record of publications or contributions to peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Work Schedule and Requirements:
This is a full time role, fully remote, working with the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC).
