Indigenous knowledge takes center stage

Carlos Martinez, PhD,  National Center for Atmospheric Research, expresses his deepest appreciation and thanks to ASRC Federal for being a sponsor for the session.

American Meteorological Society (AMS), Denver, January 2023.

In an incredible continuation of life-long service, Eileen Shea presides over the Presidential Session on Indigenous and Earth Systems Science Partnerships for Co-Creating Knowledge.

This symposium presents a panel of cutting-edge scholars and practitioners who are engaged in partnerships that bring Indigenous and Earth sciences into collaboration for more just, equitable, and sustainable responses to our climate crisis.

Panelists discuss how to develop collaborations between Indigenous and Earth sciences, what is considered “data” in Indigenous  knowledge systems - from oral histories to observations, and why  Indigenous data sovereignty is important for all collaborators to  understand and respect.
