Marine Protected Species Field Researcher

Position Overview:
CASE seeks a Marine Protected Species Field Researcher to support studies on the population status and ecology of protected species such as marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds. This position involves participating in surveys, collecting biological data, and contributing to conservation efforts.

Location: Remote/Woods Hole, MA, or other Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) locations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct aerial, shipboard, and alternative platform surveys to assess species distribution and abundance.

  • Collect and process biological samples in the field and lab.

  • Deploy and operate acoustic and biological sampling equipment.

  • Assist in tagging animals and maintaining survey equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (BS), Master’s (MS), or Doctorate (PhD) in an environmental science-related field.

  • Experience with marine fieldwork, including surveys and sample collection.

  • Ability to work long hours in field conditions, including at sea.

  • Strong teamwork and adaptability skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep understanding of species and ecosystems along the northern US continental shelf.

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies related to threatened and endangered species (ESA, MMPA, NEPA).

  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams or contributing to collaborative research projects.

  • Proven track record of publications or contributions to peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Work Schedule and Requirements:
This is a full time role, fully remote, working with the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC).
