Data Modeler/Visualization Specialist (multiple levels) - Marine, Ocean, and Coastal
Location: Remote, nationwide
Overview: CASE Consultants International, LLC is seeking a skilled Environmental Data Modeler/Visualization Specialist to provide scientific and technical program support services for NOAA Fisheries’ Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC), Social Sciences Branch (SSB). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, modeling, processing, and visualizing complex environmental, economic, and sociocultural data to support the management and conservation of living marine resources. This role is integral in conducting economic and sociocultural research, supporting regulatory analyses, and developing advanced decision-support tools that inform national marine policy.
Key Responsibilities include:
Data Modeling & Analysis:
Develop and refine bio-economic models, integrated ecosystem models, and fisheries economic and social impact models.
Conduct fundamental and advanced research and model validation against existing methodologies.
Predict model responses to environmental events, policy changes, and management strategies.
Data Visualization & Reporting:
Create and enhance web-based data visualization tools, including online automated reporting tools, fact sheets, maps, and infographics.
Produce statistical tables, charts, graphs, and web query tools to communicate research findings.
Develop regional and national assessments to inform policy and decision-making.
Geospatial Analysis & Data Management:
Conduct spatial trend analyses, imagery analysis, and data processing for comparative assessments of fishing-related indicators and performance measures.
Integrate innovative geospatial production and database modeling techniques, utilizing AI, machine learning, cloud technology, and other advanced tools.
Manage and automate data collection, processing, and visualization workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Collaborative Research & Support:
Collaborate with socioeconomic researchers to support the development of regulatory alternatives and analyze the economic and social impacts of proposed and final fishery management actions.
Participate in the development and enhancement of analytical tools and applications for data collection and analysis.
Provide expertise in advanced math programming, operations research methods, econometrics, survey statistics, and geospatial analysis..
Education, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, Economics, Sociology, or a related field with a focus on environmental data modeling and visualization.
Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
Level 2 - At least 2 years of relevant experience
Level 3 - At least 4 years of relevant experience
Level 4 - At least 10 years of relevant experience
Experience in environmental data modeling, geospatial analysis, and data visualization.
Proficiency in advanced natural resource economics, anthropology, or sociology, with a focus on human dimensions of environmental management.
Experience with advanced statistical software, including R programming, R-Shiny, GIS, Python, and other relevant tools.
Skills:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop and validate complex models.
Expertise in data visualization techniques and tools to communicate complex information effectively.
Proficiency in geospatial analysis and the use of innovative technology for data integration and automation.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
Additional Preferred Requirements:
Knowledge of U.S. legislative mandates related to marine resource management, including MSA, NEPA, MMPA, ESA, and relevant Executive Orders.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, supporting research and decision-making processes.
Willingness to travel for fieldwork, meetings, and conferences as required.
